TRIGGER WARNING: This content may be sensitive to some individuals

Prevalence of Mental Health Disorders:
Approximately 1 in 5 teenagers (20%) in the U.S. experience a mental health disorder each year.
Anxiety disorders affect 31.9% of adolescents between the ages of 13 and 18.
Depression affects 13.3% of adolescents aged 12 to 17.

 Impact on Daily Life:
Mental health issues significantly impact teenagers' ability to function in daily life, including school performance and social interactions.
About 8.4% of adolescents have had at least one major depressive episode that significantly interfered with their daily activities.

 Suicide Rates:
Suicide is the second leading cause of death among teenagers aged 15 to 19.
Approximately 9.4% of high school students have attempted suicide at least once in the past year.

Access to Mental Health Care:
Only about 40% of adolescents with mental health issues receive the necessary treatment.
Barriers to accessing mental health care include stigma, lack of awareness, and insufficient mental health services in schools.

  Effects of the COVID-19 Pandemic:
The COVID-19 pandemic has exacerbated mental health issues among teenagers, with increased reports of anxiety, depression, and stress due to social isolation and changes in daily routines.

Co-occurring Disorders:
Many teenagers with mental health disorders also experience co-occurring issues such as substance abuse. About 60% of adolescents in community-based substance use disorder treatment programs also meet diagnostic criteria for another mental illness.
